The cure of anxiety

Are you an anxious person? Are you sure about that? Are you always in distress to fulfil your chores, doing them in a hurry and are always walking fast? Are you one of those who cannot wait and get irritated if you have to wait 10 minutes for a video to be buffered? Is waiting for a phone call, a party, a date or an appointment gut wrenching or even though waiting for the end of a difficult day cause you tachycardia, fast breathing and tension? These are typical symptoms of the state of readiness that is a reaction to a stressful situation.

Well, if you fit into this profile, I can assure you, “You are not an anxious person!” You are in a transitory anxious state. Since anxiety is not an innate personality trait, it is a personality disorder, a syndrome. Anxiety is part of the transitory state not “being”. It is a mistake parents telling their children that he/she is an anxious child, or demanding from them to stop “being anxious”. This approach conditions them to think that this is an innate personality trait defect, when in fact it is a personality disorder due to mirroring, conditioning, environment and life style. A personality disorder demands treatment and it is a temporary condition. So what is anxiety? It is fear! Fear of the future, of tomorrow, fear of failure or novelty! It is fear of the unpredictable, the uncontrollable. This fear stems from the low self-esteem caused by the not knowing yourself deeply. Because when you know yourself and you are confident, there is no need to seek yourself in the external world but within. Learning about your own worth and value, will lead you to develop self-love!

Anxiety is a disorder and can be cured! And a cure starts from your own capacity to be self-sufficient, to sustain yourself. The only way to reduce or even eliminate the fear of the future, the fear of loss or to be criticised is to recognise your capacity to cope with difficult situations, knowing your personality, acknowledging and esteeming your potentials, thus you have faith in yourself. When you know your value, relying on your capacity to overcome life challenges, you quit allowing the external reality to rule and pressure you, setting your own space and borders and respecting your own opinions.

Anxiety comes from the Latin word ‘anguere’ and it means squeeze, narrow, and so do not allow others to “narrow” your way or push you to go their way. Make your room and conquer your boundaries in the external reality showing your essence! Broaden your way and explore more worlds! Be free and spacious, and never forget that you have the right to leave your mark in this world. Adding your best to this world and allowing yourself to make mistakes are valuable steps in your life long learning.
